Antique patinated bronze and Sienna marble pastille burner
Antique 19th century pastille burner of patinated bronze and Sienna marble. Set on a Sienna marble base of good colour this piece is more likely to be English rather than Italian ( the source of the marble). The pastille burner is of Gothic revival form from the moulding between the two pieces of marble that form the base to the knop finial and plate to the top of the lid. More especially the rim of the pastille burner and the mount that holds the body of the bowl. These pieces especially reflect the Gothic Revival movement with their arches and trefoil decoration. The hand cut decoration to the lid is especially pleasing. England circa 1850. 9 inches high by 5 inches square ( 22.5 cm by 12.5 cm).
